Lesson 19 of 365: Hair and Dolls

“If someone says they do not believe in your witchcraft, ask them for a strand of hair?”

Witches have many types of magic. The greatest ages of magic are often suppressed by archeologists and historians, in order to establish a different paradigm of rational thought. In Greece and Roman times sympathetic magic was very common.  Today’s lesson is about the use of hair and dolls.

Creating an image of your target was essential. It was often a doll, using cloth and even clay. Today you see us using photographs, which is a form of scientific magic that has existed about two centuries. These are then imbedded with the intention and the essence of the individual, The core is the concept of sympathetic magic. Such an object is a form of sympathetic magic; a type of enchantment that operates along the principle of “like affects like”. When enacting sympathetic magic with a doll, the spell-caster believes that whatever action is performed on it – be it physical or psychic – will be transferred to the human it represents. This is often distorted by Hollywood, but these have existed for millennia, and was one of the earliest objects we created with magic.

Today, Witches often don’t pay attention to their shedding of hair, cutting of nails, spitting and other forms of fluids, as a way to create a connection. These have been historical and common ways to do so. In our modern society, we have learned that these components are intimately connected, by the fact they carry our DNA. They carry our life code. Leaving a single strand of hair can used to identify anyone to an extremely high degree.  So what the ancient Witches knew then, we have learned scientifically. Add the idea of quantum entanglement, which we understand very little, we see that we Witches do perceive at an instinctive level what is becoming general knowledge.

So in creating an image, be it a doll, an altar with pictures, or other means of artistic imagery, you fill it with intent. Allow you mind through your imagination flow into it the object, identifying the individual. Place the hair and/or other body connections to the image. It can be clothing worn, hair, fingernails shorn, even blood. This ties these objects together with the individual thought about. Once this is completed, you create a channel.

Having created the object for sympathetic magic, you can use it for your purposes. Hollywood and other venues of distortion believe these objects to be used only for harm. That is not true, as they are often used in healing and protection. For those who are ill, you can use it to channel healing energy into. For protection, it can be used to create energy to surround them. Soldiers sent into war often left these back into their family home altars, as a way to strengthen them. Whatever intention and the spell could be cast upon them. This is a Witch’s choice.

One of the forms of this is seen in the ancestral altar, where images, items of the individual’s life, and pieces of them in form of relics work on this principle. To create a sympathetic connection, to allow their spirits into your life, by connections to items that once was theirs, be it images, clothing, and yes even hair and blood. In this way, our magic connects, and we can learn at levels that others believe in fantastical. We have always known that our bodies and our images hold power.

Assignment: Pay attention to where you’re hair, your nails, and other physical items of your body goes.
