To Know, To Dare, To Will, To Keep Silent is known as the Witches Pyramid. A foundational concept that creates a magical life, a way to be magical, and focused on the arts.  It was first articulated by  French occultist and magician Eliphas Levi (1810–1875) in his two-volume Transcendental Magic: Its Doctrine and Ritual, (1856). Since then it became part of the magical world and has been iterated over and over, in many forms.

To Know is the first part, and is recognized as the consideration of our ability to know. To gain knowledge, to learn our art, to understand the workings of magical world. Our ability to imagine how the world works, create a process around it, and then record it, is how we learn to build and advance our knowledge. This makes the Witch a scientists of our own mind, the keeper of thoughts, holdes of legacy.

The second component is not just external but internal as well. Learning how you think, what your behaviors are, what makes you happy or sad is self-knowledge. This is where you build the resources mentally you need to act on, to learn to focus. Without knowledge which is memory and the now combined, nothing else is possible. To learn about yourself, what motivates you, what excites you is the essential beginning of magic.  To Know is the beginning of your journey.

Assignment: In your Book of Shadows, offer yourself a list of what you know. What you consider is your top five knowledge pieces you cherish. Choose one more of what you want to know about.
