AkhutHinuwe Roof with People

This is a picture I made while creating my novel Death On The Horizon Of Joy, a murder mystery set in ancient Egypt. This image is AkhutHinuwe (Horizon ofJoy), the large country house in the Nile Delta where most of the action takes place. This image shows the roof, where many activities took place in most Egyptian homes. The general lack of rain made using the roof as living space far more practical than in other climates. The garden and fenced yards still show even though they are ground floor, because it helped to keep the space in perspective in my mind. The reason that North is shown as being down is because that is how the Egyptians looked at it, with North Egypt being Lower Egypt, owing to the direction of the Nile. The image was meant to help me keep the setting coherent by giving me an actualimage of the spaces being described. The little people were added for scale and my own amusement.
